Salman Khan’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ in censor trouble

Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer upcoming family drama ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is reportedly facing trouble at the Censor Board for an unusual reason.

More often than not, movies face the Censor Board’s wrath over sex, violence or profane content. However, the Sooraj Barjatya directorial is stuck over its title issue.

According to a report in Mail Today, the trouble with the film is an entirely technical one. Besides the original Hindi version, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is also slated to release in Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions. And the censor row is over the title of the Telugu version.

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has been named ‘Prem Leela’ for its Telugu release. However, according to the Board, the name bears no resemblance to the original title and hence doesn’t comply with censor laws.

Sources at the censors have reportedly pointed out that Prem Leela has a totally different meaning from Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and therefore does not convey the gist of the film in the same way as the original, and as it is meant to do, the report stated.

The new title of the Telugu version is not yet known, but the decision to change it at such a late stage could affect the film’s business in the Telugu market, which in turn could affect the overall collection of the film.

The decision to dub the film in Tamil and Telugu was reportedly taken to help Salman get his long-desired biggest hit of all time - a record currently held by Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’.

The producers of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ Rajshri Films now have to make a fresh application for a new title to obtain a certificate for the Telugu version.

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ which also stars Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kunal Kohli, Swara Bhaskar and Deepak Dobriyal will hit screens on November 12 on the occasion of Diwali.
