Salman Khan is first to enter the Rs 500 cr-a-year club


2015 has been undoubtedly a fantastic year for superstar Salman Khan with his two big releases – ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ putting the actor in top position is a segment of his own.

Salman has become the first and only male actor in Bollywood whose flims have raked in Rs 500 crore in a single year in the domestic box office. His latest release ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ which released on Diwali earned Rs 193.22 crore by its 11th day, while his Eid offering ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ smashed several records earlier this year and collected a total of RS 320.34 crore.

With a the earnings of both these films adding up to an enormous amount of Rs 513.56 crore, Salman has once again proved that he is one of the most productive and profitable stars in the film industry.

However, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is still going strong at the box office and is expected to add a few more crores in its total collection.

By being the first to enter the Rs 500 crore club, Salman who is turning 50 next month, has left behind his contemporaties, especially Aamir Khan by at least Rs 150 crore.

Aamir who makes only one film a year brought in Rs 338 crore at the box office with his 2014 film ‘PK’. He was leading so far with Salman’s best numbers being Rs 335 in 2012 with ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Dabangg 2’; Rs 320 crores in 2014 with ‘Kick’ and ‘Jai Ho’; and Rs 264 crores in 2011 with ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Ready’.  

Salman has ruled the box office this year in the absence of an Aamir Khan film, while Shah Rukh Khan’s only film this year ‘Dilwale’ will release next month. Akshay Kumar, who has had three releases this year – ‘Baby’, ‘Gabbar Is Back’ and ‘Singh Is Bliing’ could not outdo Salman at the box office.

2016 will be an exciting year with all the three Khans releasing their films. While Shah Rukh has two films – ‘Fan’ and ‘Raees’, Salman and Aamir have one each – ‘Sultan’ and ‘Dangal’ respectively.
