Salman, Katrina, Alia indulge in fun banter at IIFA press conference

Superstar Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt graced the official press conference for the 18th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) on Thursday. This year, the glamorous event will be held in New York and is set to kick off next month – from July 13-15.

Former lovers-turned-good-friends Salman and Katrina indulged in some fun banter as the spoke on about the upcoming event, and they were joined by their younger colleague Alia.

“It always feels great to be a part of the IIFA Movement and I look forward to the 2017 IIFA Awards,” the ‘Sultan’ actor said. Speaking about her performance Katrina said, “It’s been 5-6 years since I was part of IIFA. They have the best stadium, the best set up. I think the choreography (for my performance) is amazing and I am hoping that it is memorable.”

Salman interrupted by saying, “She does not need to worry about her performance. She is one of the best dancers we have in the industry.” He then looked at Alia and said, “Actually, there is a tie between Katrina and Alia.”  To this, the ‘Udta Punjab actress replied, “Please, I am a terrible dancer. I am just cute,” and Salman responded by saying, “Well, you can’t be worse than me and I am not even cute.”

Alia will be doing her debut performance at IIFA this year and the actress was “very excited and can’t wait” for it. “I have already started preparing. I am even going to be dancing in my sleep. I can’t wait to go there and perform for the people. That’s the best feeling ever,” she said.

“I am very excited to be a part of IIFA 2017 as this is going to be my debut at the IIFA Awards after five years in the industry. I am super excited that IIFA is being held in the beautiful city of New York. IIFA is all about togetherness and the celebration of the Indian cinema globally and I eagerly look forward to this celebration,” Alia, who has been nominated in the Best Actress category for ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’, added.

All the three actors – Salman, Katrina and Alia, along with several others including Shahid Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon to name a few. Karan Johar, whose directorial ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ which has been nominated for awards in eight categories, will be compering the glitzy function.

This is the second time that the IIFA extravaganza will be held in the US. It was earlier held in Tampa Bay in 2014. A day before the main event, Riteish Deshmukh and Maneish Paul will take the podium to host IIFA Rocks. The star-studded event this year will celebrate 25 years of Oscar winning singer-composer A. R. Rahman in the industry. It will also feature a medley of musicians that includes Diljit Dosanjh, Benny Dayal, Javed Ali, Neeti Mohan, Jonita Gandhi and Haricharan Seshadri.
