'I love Rajinikanth', Salman Khan

Salman Khan has often been touted as the ‘Rajnikanth’ of Bollywood. His stardom, entertainment and fan following has had him being compared to the Megastar of the South. During the trailer launch of his upcoming film, ‘Jai Ho’on Thursday evening, Salman Khan finally commented on the epithet. The Superstar was seen telling reporters, ‘I do not consider myself that way (Rajnikanth of Bollywood). As a person, if I come close to him, I would be really happy.’

When he was asked if he was the Rajinikanth of Bollywood, Salman said: "I love Rajinikanth. But the kind of person he is, if I reach anywhere close to him I will be really happy."

The interview took place during the trailer launch of ‘Jai Ho!’ directed by his younger brother, Sohail Khan. Hundreds of fans huddled at a suburban theatre to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor, Salman. Similar to the lines of the characters Rajni plays, the protagonist of this film is an ex- army man who fights against injustice and atrocities. The film is a remake of the Telugu film ‘Stalin’ which had Chiranjeevi, Trisha Krishnan and Khushboo in the leads and was directed by AR Murugadoss. A massive success in the south, people have high expectations from ‘Jai Ho’. Salman said ‘I stand for justice every day. I consider myself as a common man as I do things which a common man does in day-to-day life. Like I ride bicycle, rickshaw, I prefer taking fresh air while travelling in car, etc. Whatever I am today... a superstar is because of my fans. If they wouldn’t have loved my first film ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, then I wouldn’t be here.’

Salman Khan is known for his unique style of acting, dialogue delivery and dance. He has many blockbusters with high entertainment quotient, starting from ‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ to the ‘Dabaang’ series. Many of his one-liners are instant hits with the audience. Therefore, one tends to find an uncanny resemblance between him and Rajnikanth. Rajnikanth, although began his film career with negative roles, he soon became a hit with the audience for his screen presence, dialogue delivery and uncanny moves like flipping a cigarette ten times in the air before lighting it. Any film with Rajnikanth or Salman Khan tends to become an instant hit. Therefore, it is not surprising to find people comparing the two.

Nevertheless, Salman Khan maintained a humble status and said he respected Rajni and hoped to come close to him someday. On the other side, Rajni spent a quiet 63rd birthday with close family and friends. He will be seen next in ‘Kochadaiyaan’, a big budget film in the South.
