Saif Ali Khan to play villain in Ajay Devgn’s ‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior'

Saif Ali Khan has bagged yet another meaty project. The actor will be seen playing antagonist in Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’. The periodic drama will tell the story of the unsung warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare, who fought alongside Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj.

The sources informed, “the Taanaji team believes that Saif will make for an interesting choice to play Udaybhan Rathod, the Rajput officer and fortkeeper appointed by Jai Singh, chief of the Moghul army under Aurangzeb. The film recounts the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, which was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, and Udaybhan. The former sacrificed his life to recapture Sinhagad Fort from the Moghuls.”

This would be Ajay and Saif’s fourth film together. The two actors have earlier worked in Kachche Dhaage (1999), LOC Kargil (2003) and Omkara (2006).

On this day, last year Ajay unveiled the first poster of the film.

While sharing the poster, he wrote: "He fought for his People, his Soil & his King Chhatrapati Shivaji. The unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, Subedar Taanaji Malusare. (sic)."

Subedar Taanaji Malusare, a brave warrior, fought for his people, motherland and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The battle was fought on the night of February 4, 1670, at the fort of Sinhagad near the city of Pune. The film will showcase the efforts put by Malusare to win the Singhad Fort.
