Saif Ali Khan to Host SAIFTA

Celebrity locker is organizing South Africa India Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA) in Durban in South Africa. This is the first program of its kind and is slated to start on September 6. The event will be a sort of showcase and cultural exchange between India and South Africa and will be attended by a number of film and television dignitaries of both the countries. According to reports, Saif Ali Khan will be hosting the event.

The event is being given shape to by Celebrity locker – a well known event management company in Mumbai along with Province of KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism of Durban. A source of the organizers said, “SAIFTA is an annual event with the aim of creating a never before seen cultural exchange of the Indian and South African entertainment industry while rewarding outstanding performers.”

Several film and television personalities from both the countries will be awarded and honored in the event. From India, Waheeda Rehman, Mukesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farah Khan has been chosen while South Africans will be represented by actor and writer Welcome Msomi, theatre and TV personality Saira Essa, film industry veteran Peter Rorvik, performing artiste Linda Bukhosini, theatre personality Caroline Smart and actress Leleti Khumalo.

A curtain raiser of the event was held in Taj Lands’ End in Mumbai. The ceremony was attended by a number of leading names including Manoj Bajpai, Sanjay Gupta, Suniel Shetty, Apoorva Lakhia, Apurva and Shilpa Agnihotri, Mukesh Bhatt, Sadha Naidoo, board chairperson, Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, and Neliswe Dlamini, project manager, Department of Economic Develoent and Tourism. The SAIFTA trophy was unveiled by the veteran actress Waheeda Rehman along with our macho hunk, John Abraham.

One of the attractions of the curtain raiser was a hall of fame showing the handprints of the leading silver screen personalities of both the countries. The ceremony started with the taking of hand print of Waheeda Rehman. This wall of fame will be showcased at the main event in Durban as well.

Official spokesperson of the awards, Gawde said, “We are honoured to announce that renowned actor and producer, Saif Ali Khan,will be the SAIFTA host at the gala Awards taking place at the Durban ICC Arena on 6thSeptember.”
