Rishi Kapoor confirms selling off RK studios, Kareena gets emotional

Rishi Kapoor has confirmed in an interview about their decision to sell off the iconic RK studios. After it was gutted down in fire last year, the Kapoor thought several times to renovate it but it seems a huge monetary loss and so after a great thought they have decided to sell it off.

“For a while, we did juggle with the idea of renovating the place with state-of-the-art technology. However, in reality it isn’t always possible for a phoenix to rise from the ashes. We Kapoors are very emotional lot but then… The investment in rebuilding the studio would just not have yielded sufficient revenue to keep it going. Believe me, we had to take the larger picture into account and take a level-headed decision. Even before the fire, for years R. K. Studio had become a huge white elephant, toting up losses. The few bookings we would get from films, TV serials and ad shoots would expect free parking space, air-conditioning and discounts,” he told the daily.

In September 2017, it caught fire. “A studio can be built again but the loss of the irreplaceable memorabilia and costumes of all RK Films, is tragic for all. Fire took it away,” tweeted Rishi, son of the studio’s founder, the legendary Raj Kapoor.

The fire broke out last year on the set of the dance reality TV show Super Dancer Season 2 but fortunately no one is hurt. When the incident took place, the shooting was not underway. In the fire, a major portion of the RK studios vanished into ashes. There was a major loss of the iconic costumes and other materials.

When Kareena was asked about the same, she said: "I don't know how far what is actually happening. In fact, I have been quite under the weather and I haven't even met my father in the last four or five days... But of course, we have all grown up walking around in those corridors." Kareena was speaking on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2018, in which she walked the ramp for Monisha Jaising in the grand finale.

"I think it's probably something that the family has decided, so it's up to my fathers, his brothers and up to them... If that's what they have decided, so be it," added the actress on the sidelines of the Lakme Fashion Week, where she was the showstopper for the finale show.
