Redirect the pension to the poor and the needy, Big B requests UP

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on behalf of his family has asked UP Government to redirect the hefty 50,000 monthly pension honoured to him, Jaya and son Abhishek for being Yash Bharti awardees to the poor and the needy. “With all humility”, Big B made this request to Akhilesh Yadav government.

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya were conferred with UP's highest honour in 1994, while Abhishek was given the Yash Bharti Samman in 2006.

"Whereas I respect the UP Govt's honour of the Yash Bharti Award to members of my family, and their decision as per reports in the press, for providing pension of Rs 50, 000 per month to each recipient, I am requesting the UP Govt., with all humility, to redirect the entire amount designated for my family towards any noble charitable scheme or cause that benefits the poor and the needy," Bachchan senior said in a statement issued Wednesday, in response to TOI's report, that was on the front pages of across all its editions today.

The 73-year-old actor, who originally hails from Allahabad, UP, stated that he will write on the matter to the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in this regard, separately.
