Record-breaker ‘Baahubali’ crosses Rs 135 cr on Day 2

Filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli’s mega budget film ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ which made a phenomenal opening grossing Rs over 60 crore internationally, has reportedly crossed Rs 135 crore on the second day.

The film collected Rs.50 crore in India, with an additional Rs.16 crore coming from overseas on the opening day.

“‘Baahubali - the Beginning’ has grossed Rs135 crore at the worldwide box office in two days and its net collection stands at Rs 112 crore in the global market. With this, the movie has smashed old records of not only Telugu films, but also Bollywood films like ‘PK’, ‘Krish’ and ‘Chennai Express’,” according to a report on the website of International Business Times.

The epic film received rave reviews from critics as well as audiences, alike. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia, Nasser and Ramya Krishnan in the lead roles, the film is touted to be the most expensive film ever made in India at Rs 265 crore.

‘Baahubali’ is about the battle between two brothers for an ancient kingdom.

The film was released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi simultaneously. Whlie the Telugu version did the best business, the Hindi version released by Karan Johar garnered Rs.5.15 crore on the first day, making it the highest opening for a dubbed film.

According to trade experts, ‘Baahubali’, with a nett collection of  Rs.42.3 crore on the first day, has surpassed ‘Happy New Year’ (Rs.42 crore), ‘Dhoom: 3’ (Rs.32 crore), ‘Singam Returns’ (Rs.31.8 crore), ‘Chennai Express’ (Rs.31 crore), ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (Rs.30.3 crore), ‘Bang Bang’ (Rs.28 crore), ‘Kick’ (Rs.26 crore), ‘PK’ (Rs.25 crore) and ‘Agneepath’ (Rs.22 crore).
