Reason why ‘Raees’ trailer wasn’t released on SRK’s birthday

The trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s next big release ‘Raees’ was supposed to be out on the actor’s birthday on November 2, but it didn’t happen. Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani of Excel Entertainment had earlier announced it at an event, but they seem to have had a change in plans.

Explaining the reason why the trailer was not unveiled as planned, a source was quoted as saying, “Shah Rukh has always had a grand media event on this day and this year too, he was planning to have one. Not just that, the producers of ‘Raees’ had announced that they were planning to release the trailer on SRK’s birthday to the media but suddenly there was a change of plans. Instead, SRK brought in his birthday at his Alibag bungalow with just close friends and family and away from the media glare.”

The source further added, “Maybe they didn’t want to release their trailer so close to ‘Kaabil’, because again comparisons would be made and they wanted to avoid that.”

‘Kaabil’ directed by Sanjay Gupta and starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam is set for a box-office clash with Shah Rukh’s crime drama ‘Raees’ on Republic Day next year.

‘Raees’ is set against the backdrop of the 1980s crime scene of Gujarat and criticizes alcoholism, prostitution and illegal drugs in the state. The film directed by Rahul Dholakia, also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a police officer and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in her Bollywood debut.

The movie was originally set to release on Eid (July 6) this year alongside Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’, but it was postponed to avoid a clash and also because a few scenes were remaining to be shot. However, in order to quench the thirst of the fans, the ‘Parzania’ director released an interesting dialogue from the film on on the occasion of Eid al-Adha on September 13.
