Rati Agnihotri’s husband denies assaulting his wife

The ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’ actress Rati Agnihotri’s husband denies all the allegations against him. Worli police recoded his statement after Rati filed physical violence and mental torture case against her husband Anil Virwani. He said that he has not abused his wife in any manner.

The police will now record the statement of their domestic help, who said to be a witness of March 7 incident at the couple's home opposite Atria Mall, Worli. "We will record the statement of the servant who is witness to the alleged incident. No arrests have been made so far," said Senior Inspector Vinay Kulkarni.

According to Rati’s statement, her husband Anil Virwani has been harassing her for years. When situation went beyond her control, she decided to approach police. When she went to the police, the veteran actress had bruise in her hand. Police sent her to Podar hospital to nurse the bruise.

"Agnihotri informed us about the incident at that time, and we asked if she wants to file a complaint. But she said she wanted to go to Lonavala for some important work. She finally approached us on Saturday, and on the basis of the medical reports, we have registered the case. Prima facie there is no specific reason mentioned for the friction between the couple. We are investigating further," Kulkarni said.

For some years, Virwani, who is an architect by profession is not doing well in his business and this might be one of the reasons of losing his mental balance and assaulting his wife.

However, Virwani has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 350 (criminal force) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
