Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari was granted bail by sessions court on Thursday. Ankit has been charged of raping his girlfriend several times on the pretext of marriage. He was granted bail on a surety of Rs15, 000. The victim in question is an event and a mother of a child. Ankit was in a relationship with the girl for many years but he did not marry her as promised by him.

Ankit’s brother Ankur was also arrested for threatening the woman but he was later released on bail.

Advocate Nagesh Mishra, who appeared on behalf of the singer, said, "We had filed for bail on May 13 on the grounds that the prosecution had collected enough evidence against the accused. We had also ensured the court that we would fully co-operate with the investigation, whenever the police would ask us to."

The girl lodged a complaint against the singer that he has raped her several times on the pretext of marriage. Ankit Tiwari’s brother Ankur Tiwari was also booked for threatening the victim. He threatened the girl not to approach police and make sexual assault charge against Ankit.

The singer has been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) while Ankur has been booked with criminal intimidation.

"The prosecution sought his police custody as they wanted to recover Tiwari's mobile phone and some clothes. However, Railway Mobile Court Magistrate S.C. Jadhav granted the judicial custody," lawyer Nagesh Mishra told IANS.

Following the charge made by the girl, Ankit and his brother Ankur Tiwari were arrested on May 8 and Ankit was sent to police custody till May 12, while his brother Ankur was released on bail.

Nagesh Mishra, lawyer of Ankit has however denied the charges against his client and said that the charges against him were completely fabricated and filed to extort money from Ankit.

"Why was the victim silent all this while? When she learnt that Ankit has become successful in his career, she came to us to demand money. But when we flatly refused to pay, she filed a false complaint against my clients," he said.
