Ranveer Singh to show off his rapping skills in ‘Gully Boy’
With actors singing for themselves in their films, Ranveer Singh too has joined the bandwagon. The ‘Bajirao Mastani’ will sing, or rather rap, for himself in his upcoming flick ‘Gully Boy’. The film to be directed by Zoya Akhtar is said to be inspired by Internet sensations Divine and Naezy, who began their journey as ‘gully’ rappers straight from the slums of Mumbai.
Ranveer will essay rapper Naezy aka Naved Shaikh, who is a gully rapper from a Kurla slum. Buzz is that the super energetic actor will show off his rapping skills in the movie. Ranveer has already garnered praise from popular rappar Badshah and many others in the music space for his self-composed rap for a clothing commercial. His flamboyance, coupled with his powerful and clear vocals, stand out in rapping.
Ranveer will be romancing Alia Bhatt in the movie. Although the duo has worked together for a series of advertisements for a travel site, they will be sharing space on the silver screen for the first time. Alia has previously sung in her films ‘Highway’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and in her latest ‘Dear Zindagi’.
Ranveer had recently shared a hilarious video saying that he was lookind forward to work with Alia in ‘Gully Boy’.
“Ranveer will give more than his 100 percent to this role as always. Zoya is a close friend of his, and someone who has trusted him with her first home production. He carries some responsibility and is absolutely excited about the role. Over time, while prepping, he built a rapport with Naezy and Divine and loves their sound. He is therefore, beginning to research and think about building the right body language, accent, swag and rapping sound for this role.”
Meanwhile, the hunt for a second male lead is on. Speculations are rife that Zoya’s brother Farhan Akhtar might be cast for the role.
‘Gully Boy’ will be co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s company Excel Entertainment and Zoya’s newly-launched banner Tiger Baby.
