Ranveer Singh to go bald for ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Ranveer Singh has finally confirmed doing the film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and not ‘Shuddhi’. Sources close to the actor have clarified that he opted out of Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ because of date clashes. And the news doing the rounds in the tinsel town is that Ranveer will go bald to portray Bajirao in the film. A source was quoted in the media as saying, “This is also why the actor could not work with Johar. He had no choice but to opt out of ‘Shuddhi’. On the other hand, Bhansali has mentored him in ‘Ram Leela’ and he was keen to work with the filmmaker again.”

“The actor who eventually bags this much-coveted role will have to commit almost a year exclusively to the project. Ten months for the shoot and a month for promotions. And Sanjay wants his hero to shave off his hair, except for a little choti or shikha (braid) that pundits sport on their bald pates. This would mean that the actor will have to clear his calendar before taking up the project,” the source added.

The Magnum Opus of Sanjay Leela Bhansali — ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has been delayed for more than 10 years. The project has faced a number of cast changes over the years. Initially, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan were to pair in the film. Later the news was that Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan would play the leads. Then it was heard that Ajay Devgan was to play Bajirao’s character.

When asked about the Ranveer going bald, the actor’s spokesperson refused to comment on the matter. But sources close to the actor confirmed the news as true.

And a source reportedly said, “Ranveer is aware that the role requires him to shave off his hair and he has agreed to it.”

The industry buzz is that Deepika may play Mastani in the Bhansali movie. But since the director wants his actors to be clear about their dates, it is not known how Deepika would manage this because she has already confirmed about ‘Shuddhi’.

A source was quoted as saying, “The actress will soon have to make up her mind about the two films. Karan Johar has already announced the release date of his film, and it is known that his shooting schedule will clash with that of ‘Bajirao’.”

Both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika were unavailable for comments.
