Rani Mukherji’s father's prayer meet: Bachchans, Kareena, Aamir Khan attend


Rani Mukherji’s father Ram Mukherji breathed his last on October 22, 2017 at his residence at the age of 84 and a prayer meeting was held yesterday which was attended by the several noted names from the film industry. 

Among them were Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor etc. Rani arrived with his brother Raja Mukherjee. 

The family issued a statement which read: “Ram Mukerji, respected film-maker, beloved father and husband, is no more. He passed away on October 22 at 6 am due to natural causes. Close friends and family attended his quiet funeral at 2 pm this afternoon. He will be sorely missed by his wife Krishna Mukerji, daughter Rani Mukerji, son Raja Mukerji and the rest of the family.”

Ram Mukherjee worked in both Hindi and Bengali cinema. He was one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. He directed movies like Raktanadir Dhara, Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag, Raktalekha and Ek Bar Mooskura Do to name a few.

He launched his daughter Rani Mukherjee in 1990 film Biyer Phool, which also starred Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Ram Mukherjee helmed films like Hum Hindustani (1960), which starred Sunil Dutt, Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh in lead roles, and the Dilip Kumar-Vyjayanthimala starrer Leader (1964). Ram Mukherjee also produced Rani’s debut Hindi film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat in 1997.

He is survived by wife Krishna Mukherjee, daughter Rani and son Raja.
