Rani Mukherjee to play Dawood Ibrahim’s sister

After ‘Mardaani’, Rani Mukherjee chose only scripts which are tough and challenging. She will be next seen playing underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s younger sister Haseena Parkar and aide.

Haseena was a prominent figure. Her name first came up when her husband Ismail Parkar, was gunned down by members of the Arun Gawli gang in 1991. Dawood took revenge of his brother-in-law’s murderers and Dawood's lieutenants shot down the murderers in the infamous J.J. Hospital shootout. Later Haseena moved into an apartment in Nagpada and soon became the "godmother" of the area. On July 4, she passed away at Dongri hospital following a massive heart attack.

Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia is keen to make a film on Haseena and he has approached Rani for the movie. The film titled, ‘Haseena’ for now and is expected to go on floor in November.

A source close to the filmmaker said, "Till late last year, Apoorva was in touch with Haseena and her family. He wants to ensure that every detail is right. He himself spent a lot of time with Haseena to understand the complexities of her life."

Explaining the director's choice of Rani, the source added, "Apoorva believes that Rani will do complete justice to the role. She can pull off the part with confidence and aplomb, which is why he zeroed down on her."

For the role, Rani Mukherjee had to gain some weight and the lead stars need to attend a workshop to understand the mannerism and culture of the powerful yet dangerous lady.

Rani has not done any biopic yet and if she says yes then this would be her first biopic.
