Rani Mukherjee on her sabbatical from the public and media

Rani Mukherjee has hardly been seen in the limelight ever since her film Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna released. However Rani did have a terrible run in with the media in Varanasi where she was recently shooting for her film with the Yash Raj banner along with Konkana Sen Sharma. However Rani claims that she was not deliberately avoiding the media and her fans, but she was in New York shooting for Siddharth Anand’s Tara Rum Pum. Rani says “I was completely cut off from Mumbai in New York. It was fun to be on my own, when I’m on location abroad I generally like to remain totally cut off.”
Rani was so busy with her shooting schedule abroad that she was barely even around to promote her film KANK. On the film Rani feels “Why is it that a wife must be happy just because her husband is seemingly perfect and happy with her. What if the woman finds love after finding this supposedly perfect husband. I think we need to salute Karan Johar for dealing with the very important issue of passionless marriages in urban settings with such maturity. I ‘m very proud of being in KANK.” Rani is also very happy with her performance in her other film Baabul. Rani feels that people often talk about treating their daughter-in-law equally but very few people actually practice or believe in it. But she feels this film will make people want to change this kind of an attitude.

Rani was very upset with the entire media ruckus in Varanasi, she was so stressed out that she actually took ill. She says “I was asked to say sorry for my behaviour at the press conference, which I did, then they sad that I did not say sorry properly. The fact is that the people of Varanasi are with us and this was seen when some people appreciated her performances in several of her films.” Rani however claims that she will not be seen playing a courtesan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming film Saawariyan. Rani says that she shares a very special relationship with her director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Rani will also be working with Jaya Bachchan for the first time in her film with the Yash Raj Banner, she says “I’ve always admired Jaya aunty’s work, I looked forward to working with her and now it’s finally happening.” Rani will be back in the limelight soon as she has a number of films already lined up for release.
