Rang De Basanti does not get BAFTA Award

India’s entry Rang De Basanti did not win an award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards. The BAFTA Awards are considered an important indicator of the Oscars. The entire team of Rang De Basanti including actor Aamir Khan, director and producer of the film Rakeysh Mehra and Ronnie Screwvala attended the BAFTA Awards night in London. RDB was competing with five different films in the non English language category and the film that won amongst others was Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’.
But actor Aamir Khan is not really disappointed with RDB’s failure at the BAFTA Awards as Aamir has enjoyed the experience and the company during the awards. However he claims that he has been very busy and hence has not been able to get a chance to watch any of the other four films. Aamir Khan was also excited to present the award for ‘Outstanding contribution to British Cinema’ at the BAFTA Awards. Aamir takes the disappointment of not winning the award with a pinch of salt and he says “I don’t take these things seriously and for me what is of prime importance is the audience for whom we make the film. And RDB has had a fantastic response not just in India but audiences all over the world have loved it. So I’m really happy about it and when platforms like Oscars, BAFTA or Golden Globe recognize the film then it makes me happy.” Aamir is extremely happy that so many people have got a chance to watch the film and appreciate it.

Aamir Khan is known to have boycotted several national awards within the country as he feels they are not a true representation. He has in fact not even attended most of the Indian Award ceremonies. Well but it seems that Aamir definitely has more faith in the international awards than our very own, back home.
