Ranbir, Varun to play Kishore & Rafi in Arif Ali’s next?

Imtiaz Ali’s brother Arif Ali is ready with his next film which will be a musical saga based on two of the top male playback singers of the 1970s – Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan are being considered to portray the two singing legends in the film titled 'Sitaarey'.

“The film will reveal a tale of innocence set in a self-consumed, conniving environment. The casting is yet to be complete but the team is looking at names like Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan to play the main leads,” DNA quoted a source as saying.

Buzz is that the film has been inspired by the lives of two great male singing legends of that era — friends, yet competitors as far as their singing was concerned, the source added.

Arif whose debut directorial was ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’ in 2014, said, “I was struck by the simplicity of the concept. The narrative will flourish through our screenplay and songs.”

Arjun N Kapoor who will be co-producing the film added, “Every nuance of this musical saga is being meticulously planned to re-create the period this film belongs to.”

The film is set to go on floors early next year.

Arif’s debut film ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’ was a romantic drama starring Armaan Jain and Deeksha Seth.
