Ranbir Kapoor to play Sanjay Dutt on silver screen

Back in May, it was first revealed that after ‘PK’ Rajkumar Hirani is willing to take up the biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt who is currently serving a jail term. It also came to light that Raju Hirani wants none other than Bollywood sensation Ranbir Kapoor to play the colourful actor.  However none of them were ready to confirm anything back then. Although sources had revealed that the two were in regular touch. Sometime back Ranbir told the media, "Portraying Sanju sir on screen is a big task. And it comes with a huge responsibility. He's had a very entertaining, engaging, and a roller-coaster kind of a life. I think Raju sir himself hasn't decided if he wants to do it or not."

But as per latest reports, Ranbir has given his nod to the project. He told Raju Hirani that he could start working on the screenplay and script. A source close to the director has informed,  "Hirani is very happy. He now has an interesting story to tell and a talented actor to say it with. Ranbir, like Sanju, is the darling of the masses. But it's not going to be an easy story to depict.”

Sanjay Dutt and Raju Hirani share a good bond since working in the ‘Munna Bhai’ films and Ranbir also shares a close relationship with Sanjay Dutt since his younger days. Before Sanjay was given a jail term, Ranbir used to exercise in his gym and even rode his motorbikes sometimes. However, Ranbir and Raju Hirani undoubtedly have a tough task ahead of them as Sanjay Dutt has had a rollercoaster life till now that has equal measures of success and tragedy.

However Ranbir seems to have the blessing of Sanjay Dutt’s family. His sister Priya Dutt supported Ranbir as a choice to play her brother on screen. She said, "Ranbir is one of our finest actors and is perfect to play Sanju. He knows my brother well and is a sensitive guy. I'm sure he will do a good job. However, it's too early to say anything more as I don't know what's on Raju's mind. Putting Sanju's life on celluloid can be tricky and one can go terribly wrong. I'm glad it is Raju in the director's seat. I'm sure his film, whenever it's made, won't disappoint us."

Raju Hirani is currently busy with the post production work of his film ‘PK’, while Ranbir is involved with multiple projects.
