Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor to reunite for Sanjay Dutt biopic

Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, who started their acting career with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’, will be reuniting on-screen after almost ten years. Although ‘Saawariya’ was a box-office disaster, the two debutants got noticed. However, Ranbir and Sonam haven’t worked together after the 2007 film.

Ranbir and Sonam are all set to come together in the biopic on Sanjay Dutt being directed by Rajkumar Hirani. While Ranbir will enact the role of the ‘Munna Bhai’ actor, Sonam will play an actress of the 1990s whom Sanjay Dutt had dated.

“Sonam’s character is not reflective of any particular woman but is a fictional amalgamation of the many women Dutt dated through the 1980s and 90s,” a source close to the development was quoted by Mumbai Mirror.

The film will also bring back Ranbir’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ co-star Anushka Sharma, who will play the role of a journalist.

The biopic will go on floors in 2017 and Ranbir will undergo a huge transformation for the role. He will have to shed almost 10-20 kgs and grow his hair for the first schedule, and then again beef up for the second. The first sequences will be set in the 1990s, when Sanjay acted in films like 'Thaanedar', 'Saajan', 'Gumrah', 'Khalnayak', 'Aatish', 'Safari' and 'Kartoos'. After that the makers will go back by a decade to the '80s, which will focus more on Sanjay’s personal life, a source had earlier revealed.

The biopic is a collaborative project between both Hirani and Sanjay Dutt’s production houses. The movie will showcase most of the aspects of Sanjay's life - from his meteoric rise to stardom to his downfall post his Arms controversy and his come-back. However, buzz is that it will not touch on any of the controversies, including drug abuse and jail terms. Rather, it will focus on his family and love.
