Bollywood has been full of excitement since the FIFA world cup began few days ago. But looks like some stars are not just content with watching the games on TV and posting about them in social networking sites. Bollywood sensation Ranbir Kapoor a well known football fanatic decided to take things a step forward. He organized a social football match along with his cousin brother Armaan Jain, also a big football fan. What’s more, they were joined by some of their celebrity friends. The match was organized in order to promote Armaan’s debut film, the soon to be released, ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’. The match took place in Mumbai on last Tuesday (16th June) at evening.
Ranbir’s close friend and film director Imtiaz Ali is also a football lover and joined the cousins for the match. Imtiaz’s brother and the director of ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’, Arif Ali also played in the match. As a special treat for the fans, pretty Deeksha Seth, who is also making her debut alongside Armaan in the film, joined the boys to play in the match. The match was played between two teams led by Ranbir and Armaan. Deeksha and Arif Ali were in Armaan’s team while Ranbir’s team consisted of Imtiaz Ali and his daughter. The match turned out to be quite exciting as the two teams played neck to neck. Those who were present enjoyed every bit of the football action and the promotional event can be called a success. Armaan’s film, ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’, co-produced by brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan will be released on 4th July. Ranbir also played a key role in getting Armaan the lead role in the film.
Ranbir on the other hand, has made a habit of playing football matches whenever he gets the time. He even thought of football as an alternative profession. Ranbir once said, "Football is life for me and if not an actor, I would have loved to be a footballer…it teaches team work, determination and discipline apart from being such an exciting sport." Back in March, he took part in a star studded charity football match at the Cooperage Ground in Mumbai. He is also a part of Abhishek Bachchan’s All Stars Football Club (ASFC) alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Dino Morea, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sachin Joshi. Ranbir Kapoor also became the co-owner of the Mumbai team franchise of the proposed football league, ‘Indian Super League’.
