Bollywood has become interested in biopic and the story of Milkha Singh and Mary Kom has now been immortalized in celluloid under the titles ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘Mary Kom’. Now, director Neeraj Pandey (of ‘Baby’ fame) has taken up the ambitious project of making the biopic on the captain of the Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Reportedly, the project has been given the go ahead by the cricketer and the casting issues are now being sorted out. Sushant Singh Rajput plays Dhoni in the film. The first look of the actor with long hair and unshaven visage wearing the famous tee shirt with lucky number 7 has now been released. It must be agreed that there seems to be an uncanny resemblance between the cricketer and the actor.

Now, that the central character has been sorted out, there are other casting issues to sort out. Suresh Raina is one of the closest friends of Dhoni. Naturally there was a lot of interest regarding the casting of Suresh. Director Pandey has ultimately chosen the well known Telugu actor Ram Charan Teja to portray the character of Suresh Raina. Teja had last appeared in ‘Zanjeer’ opposite Priyanka but the movie did not get a good response from the audience. Now, Teja has got a good opportunity to showcase his talent once more in Bollywood.

The biopic is already attracting a lot of attention, probably because cricket is regarded as a religion in India. The film will be titled ‘MS Dhoni – The untold story’. One of the highlights of the film is sure to be the 2011 World cup which was won by India. When this will be shown in the film, Sachin Tendulkar’s character and that of Yuvraj Singh’s will have to appear on the silver screen. It remains to be seen who gets to plays the beautiful role of the master blaster on the silver screen.

Neeraj Pandey has directed films like ‘A Wednesday’, ‘Special 26’ and ‘Baby’ and he is ready to take up the challenge of depicting the life’s journey of the captain of World cup winning Indian cricket team. Initially the film had run into several difficulties. It was rumoured that Dhoni had demanded a huge sum to give the go ahead to the film, but the issue was later resolved. Permission was also required from the BCCI. However, all these issues have now been sorted out and buzz is steadily building up around this film as the cast is finalized.
