Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt may go on floors early 2016


<PK>Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who was in the US to develop the script of his next project, a biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt, has returned after a long stay.

The ‘PK’ director is very much excited about the project on Sanjay Dutt’s life. It is the first time he would be working on a biopic.

Hirani has approached Ranbir Kapoor to essay the role Sanjay Dutt. The ‘Bombay Velvet’ star was heard sharing that portraying the character of the ‘Vaastav’ actor on screen will be interesting, but added that it would be a difficult task for him, according to a report in businessofcinema.com.

The report also mentioned that Hirani was planning to begin shooting for the film early next year. However, he is still in the process of finalizing the script and nothing has been officialy confirmed yet.

Hirani and Sanjay have known each other for years. Sanjay was also the lead actor of Hirani’s first directorial venture ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ which was a huge success.

The director wanted to capture all the moments of Sanjay’s life, the known and unknown sides of him.

Following the tremendous success of ‘PK’, the director took off to the US to give undivided attention to the development of the script. Hirani and Abhijat Joshi were busy writing the script for the biopic during their long stay there.

The director has also spent a lot of time with Sanjay and people close to him to work on this project.
