Rajinikanth shoots for ‘Lingaa’

After the recent release of the 3D film, ‘Kochadaiiyaan’, superstar and Tamil cultural icon Rajinikanth has already got busy with his new project, the drama film ‘Lingaa’. Last month the ‘muhurat’ shot of the film was filmed in the city of Mysore at the Chamundeshwari Temple. There were concerns about Rajinikanth’s availability after his health scare and hospitalization in 2011. But later his daughter Soundarya confirmed that her father would continue to work in films.

From June 24th Rajinikanth started shooting in full swing for the film at Ramoji film city in Hyderabad. The shooting went on from morning to evening. The 63 year old actor looked quite fit and wore the look of a young man. The name of the film is apparently inspired by Rajini’s grandson Linga, the son of popular actor Dhanush and Rajini’s elder daughter Aishwaryaa R Dhanush. The story of the film is said to be spanning multiple generations.

‘Lingaa’ will also feature Bollwood beauty Sonakshi Sinha who will be making her Tamil debut with this film.  This will be third time Rajinikanth is working with a top Bollywood heroine after Aishwarya in ‘Robot’ and Deepika Padukone in ‘Kochadaiiyaan’. As per sources on the set, Rajinikanth is quite impressed with Sonakshi who is working on her very first southern venture. Sonakshi has been picking up things real quick and is also eager to learn. This quality has made a good impression on the superstar.

The film also features popular south Indian female star, Anushka Shetty.  Other importsnt cast members are popular comedian Vadivelu and veteran actor Jagapati Babu. The director of the film is K.S. Ravikumar who has collaborated with the superstar in the films, ‘Muthu’ (1995) and ‘Padayappa’ (1999). Both films were box office successes. A.R.Rahman was the composer for both films and he is also composing the music of ‘Lingaa’. Another collaboration between the director and actor duo was the film ‘Rana’. But shortly after the filming began, Rajinikanth fell ill on the sets. Since then work on the film is stuck in a limbo.  Deepika Padukone is also signed on the project.

Rajinikanth’s last film was ‘Kochadaiiyaan’, India’s first film primarily based on motion capture technology.  The same technology was used in Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Tintin’ and ‘Avatar’. The film got mixed reviews from the critics. The film performed very well in Tamil Nadu but was less successful in the other parts of India.
