Rajesh Khanna’s iconic bungalow ‘Aashirwad’ destroyed

‘Aashirwad’ the iconic bungalow of the first superstar of Bollywood late Rajesh Khanna was demolished by the new owner. The new owner businessman Shashi Kiran Shetty razed Rajesh Khanna's bungalow which stands at the Carter Road to build a new one.

The demolition work is going on in full force. New owner Shetty told mid-day, “The structure was almost 50 years old. We plan to have a new bungalow over there. Currently, it is a very rough plan but we have submitted it to the BMC.”

A senior official from the BMC’s Building Proposal department informed this reporter, “They have taken the required permission for such an action. I have also been told they have the mandatory permission from state coastal authority. A building is going to be constructed in place of the bungalow, but I don’t have its details.”

In 1970, Rajesh Khanna purchased the bungalow Aashirwad from actor Rajendra Kumar for Rs 3.5 lakh.

Upon the death of Rajesh Khanna, fondly called Kaka on July 18, 2012, the property passed to his daughters Twinkle and Rinke. The owernship was an issue after Kaka’s death when Rajesh Khanna’s live-in partner, Anita Advani, claimed a share of the property. However, Khanna own the case and Rajesh Khanna’s beloved daughters Twinkle and Rinke own the right of the bungalow.

On August 29, 2014, it was reported that Shashi Kiran Shetty, founder and CMD of logistics firm, Allcargo Logistics Ltd had bought the 603-sq-metre house for Rs 90 crore.
