‘Raees’ vs ‘Sultan’: Shah Rukh, Salman not to clash on Eid 2016?

The upcoming films ‘Raees’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and ‘Sultan’ starring Salman Khan are set for a massive clash at the box-office with both releasing on Eid next year. A lot is being said about the clash of the Khans and their new found friendship. However, there seems to be a possibility that the much hyped clash might be averted.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, trade analysts are of the opinion that whether ‘Raess’ and ‘Sultan’ should release on the same day will depend a lot on the box-office performance of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dilwale’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

Both ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ are highly anticipated films of the year and are set to release on December 18. The clash between ‘Raees’ and ‘Sultan’ will depend on how both the films affect each other’s business.

"It all depends on how these films fare at the box office, and the situation might then change. Then, there is a possibility that Shah Rukh and Salman will sit together and mutually decide and one of them might shift the release date. When there are huge stars involved, it is they who take the call about most of the important decisions of their films, not the producers," the report quoted a senior trade expert as saying.

"Now, both the stars are on good terms, so sitting down and discussing won't be a problem. Also, for Shah Rukh, the opposite party is Yash Raj (the producers of Sultan), with whom he shares very good relations, so negotiation is possible. This, however, is not the case with ‘Bajirao Mastani’, which involves Bhansali and Eros. Here, it is more of an ego clash," added the trade expert.

However, Shah Rukh and Salman do not seem to be much affected by the impending clash of their films.

In an interview, Shah Rukh had said, "There is no issue. Let them also release. It's very simple, their distribution and production offices feel their film should release on Eid, while my distribution office feels that ours is designed for Eid. So, we both have decided (to release the films on the same date), but there's no clash the way it's being made out to be."

Salman also responded by saying, "I love Shah Rukh a lot and I don't think he needs to worry at all, because the last time our movies came together, he had beaten me. So, even if ‘Sultan’ and ‘Raees’ are releasing on the same day, ‘loss mera hi hoga’."

Raees's producer Ritesh Sidhwani had also said that the filmmakers will attempt a discussion over the so-called clash. He said, "Once both the films are done, we will sit and talk. Several films are announced, but then they (release dates) are moved too."

Shah Rukh plays the role of a bootlegger in ‘Raees’ which is directed by Rahul Dholaki, while Salman will essay the role of Haryanvi wrestler Sultan Ali Khan in the film by Ali Abbas Zafar.
