‘Raag Desh’ trailer: Kunal Kapoor-starrer is about contribution of INA

The trailer of film ‘Raag Desh’ starring Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Mohit Marwah in the lead was unveiled on Thursday, June 29, at the Parliament House. The film is based on the true story of the 1945 Red Fort trials of three Indian National Army (INA) officers that changed the course of India's Freedom Movement.

The film’s writer-director Tigmanshu Dhulia and producer Gurdeep Singh Sappal were present at the trailer launch. The film is being presented by Rajya Sabha TV.

The two-and-a-minute trailer shows the famous Red Fort trial of the three INA officers Colonel Prem Sehgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, and Major General Shah Nawaz Khan, who were prisoners of war in Malaya (present-day Malaysia), Singapore and Burma (Myanmar) respectively. They were accused of “waging war against the King” and charged with murder, and handed over to Japanese Imperial Army. Towards the end of the trailer, the song ‘Qadam qadam badaye jaa’ plays.

‘Raag Desh’ talks about the contribution of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his INA, which was set up for India's independence. However, it doesn’t deal with the mystery surrounding the death of the national leader.

"We all know that the winner writes the history. In this film, I explored the contribution of the INA in our freedom movement. But no, to kill everyone's interest, ‘Raag Desh’ does not deal with Bose's mysterious death," Tigmanshu Dhulia told media.

The Red Fort trial is one of the most interesting and relevant parts of our Independence history and ‘Raag Desh’ is about that fascinating case, the National Award-winning filmmaker added.

The movie is slated to release on July 28.
