Producer Daggubati Ramanaidu passes away at 78

Noted producer Daggubati Ramanaidu dies in Hyderabad today after battling against cancer for a long time. He was 78. He breathed his last in a hospital in Hyderabad.

"Ramanaidu, who was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, passed away at a private hospital. His body is being shifted to his studio for public to pay their last respects," the veteran's publicist told IANS.

Mr Ramanaidu made over 150 films in several languages including Hindi and holds the Guinness World Record for producing the highest number of films. His movies include, "Prem Nagar", ‘Jeevana Tarangalu’, ‘Soggadu’, ‘Kaliyuga Pandavulu’, ‘Coolie No 1’ and ‘Ganesh’ and Hindi films include ‘Prem Nagar’, ‘Dildaar’, ‘Maqsad’, ‘Insaaf’, ‘Tohfa’, ‘Anari’ and ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’. He made several movies under his banner Suresh Productions. His son Suresh is also a producer, his second son Venkatesh is a well known actor while his grandson Rana Daggubati is also an actor.

He had also produced films in several languages, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi and English.

In the later part of his career, Mr Ramanaidu joined politics. He was the Telugu Desam MP from Bapatla in Guntur between 1999 and 2004.  Producer Daggubati Ramanaidu is also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke awards.

The Telugu film industry has expressed shock over the demise of Ramanaidu. He introduced many artists to the film industry.
