Priyanka sweats it out for ‘Mary Kom’ biopic

Bollywood glamour girl Priyanka Chopra is all set for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next project, ‘Mary Kom’. The film, directed by Omung Kumar, is a biopic based on the life of five-time world boxing champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Mary Kom.

The former Miss World pageant was earlier spotted in her film, ‘Gunday’s promotions and some ad campaigns but is now going through an arduous exercising schedule to perfect Kom’s body language on the sets of ‘Mary Kom’, in which she plays the title role.

She went to meet Mary Kom in Manipur, where the athlete talked to her about her life.

“I met Priyanka in Mumbai, much before she came to Manipur, during which we spoke at length. When she came to Manipur, she knew about boxing. So, I gave her tips as a mother and a wife, on how I went about managing my home and profession, how I live with my family —basically, she got to know certain aspects of my family life,” Kom said.

The actress had Tweeted, “Uff body ache!!! Walking is a feat.. Respect to the dedication of sports people… But there is a spirituality in focus..go go go… #MaryKom”.

She also posted a picture from the sets of the film on Instagram.

Ravi Saharn, her coach for the role, who has been with her for one year, says he is very “impressed with her dedication”.

“Training to be a boxer is not a cakewalk, but I must say that Priyanka has impressed me with her professionalism and dedication. There have been times when she has been hurt while sparring, or working out. She also injured her knee while skipping once. But she did not let these interfere with her training, which, indeed, is admirable,” he says.

The actress has been training for five to six hours a day, which includes running, sparring and other exercises.

“She is actually training to box and not just to appear as if she is boxing,” he adds.

Priyanka is an actress-turned-singer, and the winner of the Miss World pageant 2000. Through her successful career in Bollywood, she has been one of the highest-paid actresses and one of the most popular celebrities in India. She has received many awards and has been nominated in many films, including a National Film Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Awards.

She was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights in August 2010.
