Priyanka Chopra's date with Malala

United Nations organized an annual dinner for global leaders recently and Priyanka Chopra got a chance to be there and meet the global leaders. Priyanka herself has been associated with charity works conducted by United Nations and has supported the cause of girl child and has spoken against infanticide and foeticide. She has always supported education of girls.

In the event, she met prominent personalities like Malala Yousafzai, Matthew Bishop and Samantha Power among many others.

A source said, “Priyanka was home in Mumbai for Diwali but soon after she flew to New York to be a part of the event. She has been working with the UN for some time now and this dinner was a part of the annual bash that the organisation throws to honour the people who work towards creating awareness for some social issues.”

Priyanka was excited to meet Malala. She said, “It was an amazing experience to be present for the charity dinner and support the UN in their endeavor to support the girl child. Samantha Power, Malala and several other such people have been huge inspiration for me. It was really a good way to celebrate the girl child.” 

Malala Yousafzai is a teenager from the Swat District of Pakistani northwest province, which has the invisible rule of Taliban. At the age of 12-13 years, when Taliban banned girl children from going to school, Malala wrote a blog detailing her life under Taliban rule. Then New York Times made a documentary on her life. Later on she was shot in her head while returning from school. She survived after a surgery in England. She received world’s sympathy. Malala fought for the cause of girl education.

Further to this, United Nations Special ambassador for Global Education Gorden Brown launched a UN petition in Malala Yousafzai's name. The slogan was called "I am Malala" and demanded that all children worldwide should be in school by the end of 2015. This petition also helped rectify of Pakistan's first Right to Education Bill.

Priyanka Chopra has been associated with other philanthropic causes. Recently she donated a sum of Rs. 50 lakhs to the cancer ward of a known city hospital.
