Prince Harry engaged to American actress Meghan Markle

Britain's Prince Harry is engaged to American actress Meghan Markle. The royal palace announced the news of the engagement on Monday morning. The news came as a big surprise for the people of Britain. The wedding is speculated to take place in 2018 during spring.

The couple received blessings from Queen Elizabeth II and they will be residing at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace. Congratulatory messages poured in from every corner.

Taking about Markle, her mother is African American, and her father is white. She is divorced from the previous marriage and has no children from her earlier marriage.

No sooner the news broke out, the British media quickly questioned about Markle's race, marital status and nationality.

A BBC News alert read: "American, divorced, an actress and mixed race - Meghan Markle will bring something different to the Royal Family."

The Daily Mail's headline informed, "the Queen says she is 'delighted' the divorced American actress is to join the royal family."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first made public appearance together in September at the Invictus Games, a sporting event for disabled veterans founded by the prince. The couple held hands and posed for the shutterbugs.

Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury - the most senior post in the Church of England blessed the couple.

"I'm absolutely delighted to hear the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now engaged," he tweeted. "I wish them many years of love, happiness and fulfillment - and ask that God blesses them throughout their married life together."
