‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ mints in Rs 71 crore in two days


After ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Salman Khan is again on his way to deliver another bumper hit with the family drama ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, directed by Sooraj Barjatya. The sanskaari film released a day before Diwali pulled huge masses to the cinema hall. In various parts of the country, the movie saw advance booking. The film had made a phenomenal opening of Rs 40 crore on day one but the sad part is that its collection dropped by 23% on Saturday. The film raked in Rs 71 crore in two days.

According to trade experts, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is likely to cross Rs 100 crore barrier on Saturday.

Trade experts described the film’s performance “outstanding” and “phenomenal”. The film has done well overseas as well, grossed $1.6 million.

The film reunited the hit combo of Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya’ after 16 years.

Starring Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Swara Bhaskar, Armaan Kohli and Neil Nitin Mukesh, apart from Salman, the film has been made on a huge budget.

“From North to South, and from East to West, it’s the same story: opening of SoorajBarjatya and SalmaKhan’s PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO is phenomenal,” trade analyst Komal Nahta posted on Twitter on Friday.

Made on a budget of 60 crore and 20 crore spent on publicity and advertising, the film is Barjaty’s costliest film ever. Trade expert Taran Adarsh wrote: “#PremRatanDhanPayo has a MIND-BOGGLING start. Salman + Sooraj Barjatya + Diwali results in MAGICAL figures at the box office... OUTSTANDING START.”

Salman Khan said that he is feeling good with the film’s response. He said, "I'll appreciate all the fans, who went to the theatre already. So it's really nice of them. And all of them have loved the movie, from the feedback that I'm receiving from everyone. So it's a good feeling that after such a long time, a film like this has come and the numbers for the first day are really large."
