Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj to undergo DNA tests?

Late TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee was reportedly pregnant and had undergone an abortion, days before she hanged herself on April 1. The doctors at the JJ Hospital had on April 18 confirmed the pregnancy of the ‘Balika Vadhu’ actress based on histopathology tests reports of tissues taken from Pratyusha’s uterus.

Following the developments, Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh might have to undergo a DNA test soon. Although Rahul had dismissed the pregnancy reports of his late girlfriend, police now might conduct a DNA test on him to establish the paternity of Pratyusha’s unborn child, according to a report in The Times of India.

However, experts maintain that it will be tough to establish the paternity of the unborn child. "Since there are no tissues left or rather they were removed, it may be challenging to carry out a DNA test to establish the child's paternity," an expert said.

The report quoted a source close to the investigation as saying, "The findings showed that there was a conception few days or a month before her demise, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell. The products of conception, or the placental or foetal tissue in the uterus found following delivery, termination of pregnancy or a miscarriage, were infected and degenerated. That usually hints towards a secondary infection, probably occurring due to an attempt to terminate the pregnancy," the source added. But, the reports could not confirm the exact gestational age of Pratyusha’s pregnancy.

The report further quoted a doctor as saying that Pratyusha’s viscera was being analysed at Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory, where experts will run chemical tests to look for traces of poisoning. Her hair, nail and blood samples have been preserved for DNA analysis.
