Pratyusha Banerjee death: Autopsy report says asphyxia cause of death

The post-mortem report of late television actress Pratyusha Banerjee revealed the cause of her death to be asphyxiation and strangulation marks were detected on the neck of her body. Doctors performed the preliminary autopsy on Saturday evening while a final report is expected later. The viscera samples have been sent for forensic analysis.

The ‘Balika Vadhu’ actress was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her Goregaon residence on Friday evening by her boyfriend and TV actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh and was rushed to Mumbai Kokilaben hospital where she was declared dead.

The post-mortem conducted for over three hours was videographed. A tattoo bearing the name 'Rahul' - purportedly referring to her boyfriend - was found on her upper back. According to sources, it is a clear case of suicide and no foul play is suspected. However, they are not ruling out that aspect.

Meanwhile, police continued their investigation into the death of the 24-year-old actress and interrogated her boyfriend Rahul on Saturday. Speculations are rife that the actress had a troubled relationship with Rahul which led her to take the extreme step. However, Rahul claimed to be innocent in the case.

Pratyusha's mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Oshiwara Crematorium in presence of her grieving parents, other family members, friends, actors and co-stars from the television industry.
