‘Podosan’ is the inspiration behind Parineeti’s character in ‘MPB’

Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra starrer ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ hit screens today. The makers had already fuelled the anticipation of audience by releasing as many as five trailers in a unique chapter-wise manner. Each chapter showcased the stages of the protagonists and their relationship.

Parineeti’s character is named Bindu Shankar Narayanan, an aspiring singer, while Ayushmann plays a Bengali pulp fiction writer Abhimanyu Roy in the movie.

During a chat on India Today show ‘In Da Club’, Ayushmann revealed that the name of Parineeti’s character and the film’s title has been inspired from the classic movie ‘Padosan’ starring Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu. In the 1968 movie, the hero is smitten by his pretty neighbour Bindu, played by Saira Banu, and in this film Abhi also falls in love with his neighbour. Hence the name Bindu.

Parineeti also said different Bollywood classics characterise the different phases of relationship between Bindu and Abhi’s character.

The romantic comedy has been directed by debutant Akshay Roy and produced by Maneesh Sharma under Yash Raj Films.
