‘PK’ mints in 183 cr in first week, breaking ‘Kick’, ‘HNY’ record


<PK>Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ turned out to be the champion of the year 2014. The film not only joined the 100 crore club in just four days of its release but the film also lags behind blockbusters like, last year release ‘Dhoom 3' and also defeated the first week collection of 2014 two biggest releases ‘Happy New Year’ and 'Kick'. ‘PK’ made a roaring business of Rs 183.09 crore in the opening week.

‘PK’ is ahead of the all the recently released blockbusters. In the first week, ‘Dhoom 3’ collected Rs 178.97 crore and Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ and Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ – collected Rs 164.09 crore and Rs 157.57 crore in the opening week.

Bringing back the superb collaboration of Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra after ‘3 Idiots’, nude poster of Aamir, Aamir-Anushka’s pairing and above all the unique plot worked wonder for the film.

The opening day collection of ‘PK’ registered Rs 26.63 crore on Friday which is the highest non-holiday opener and it collected Rs 30.34 crore on Saturday, the Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer combined a record Rs 38.24 crore on Sunday, taking the total weekend box office collections to Rs 95.21 crore. It may be noted that ‘PK’ made it to the Rs 100 crore club in just four days. Trade analysts are optimistic that the film will definitely cross the Rs 300 crore ultimately.

Rajesh Thadani from Multimedia Combines told IANS, "PK has done extremely well. In fact, it's the highest grosser in one week. Yesterday (Thursday) due to Christmas, the collection was outstanding. The film will certainly cross Rs 300 crore easily."

On Christmas, ‘PK’ ended really well. "The film is going steady at the box office and the film has not dropped even on weekdays," Thadani added.

Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput, starrer ‘PK’ is doing outstanding business. Sunil Bansal, a distributor from Rajasthan, told IANS, "The film is doing extremely well in Rajasthan. The shows have been going houseful and this film is the highest grosser of the year in a week. It's doing an outstanding business. It should cross Rs 300 crore."
