Photos: Dilip Kumar leaves hospital with wife Saira Banu

After 10 days of stay at Lilavati hospital in Mumbai, the 90-year-old thespian was discharged from hospital. Dilip Kumar waved to his fans as he was wheeled outside the hospital. His wife and veteran actress Saira Banu accompanied him. He was admitted to Lilavati hospital after he suffered a massive heart attack. 

As he was wheeled outside, he holds Saira Banu’s hand. His brother-in-law was also with them. He was helped by his assitant to wave his hands to his fans waiting outside the hospital to get a glimpse of the superstar. He looks hale and hearty but will take sometime to recover fully.

Dilip Kumar underwent heart surgery 14 years ago. “He is better and hence it was decided to take him home”, says a close source. He was helped to get inside his car. Media person, fans gathered outside to see him.

Dilip Kumar thanked his fans for their prayers and best wishes. He tweeted, "Thank you for your prayers and love. Resting in the hospital."

"He is fine now and he will be shifted from the ICU (intensive care unit) to the general ward soon. Most probably he will be discharged in the next three to four days," Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu's manager Murshid Khan, said.

Born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) his acting career spanned six decades and starred in over 60 films.

Dilip Kumar, 90, is a noted Bollywood actor who delivered many hits and won many awards for his exceptional work. Known as the ‘King of Tragedy’, Dilip Kumar delivered classics like Devdas, Madhumati, Mughal-e-Azam and Ganga Jamuna and list goes on.

He won many Filmfare awards and honored with Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

He was also a Rajya Sabha member from 2000 to 2006.
