People calling India “land of rapes” is embarrassing: Big B
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he feels “embarrassed” when he travels abroad and people there tell him that India is a third world country and a “land of rapes.”
“It’s very embarrassing when we visit abroad and people there say, ‘You are from India, the land of rapes’. I want that to go. I don’t like it when people call us a third world country or develoPinkg country,” Big B said on Friday.
“We all must work to make India a first world nation, a developed country,” the actor said at a press conference in Delhi for his latest release ‘Pink’. Amitabh Bachchan essays the role of a lawyer in the hard-hitting court-room drama about women empowerment.
He said that each part of the country should be safe for women. “We should not say that Mumbai is safer than Delhi or vice versa. We are a country and women should be safe in every part. If an incident occurs in Delhi, the whole nation feels bad and gets worried. The issue is about the whole nation or universal,” the ‘Piku’ actor said.
Produced by Shoojit Sircar and directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, ‘Pink’ released on Friday. Also stars Taapsee Pannu, Kriti Kulhari, Angad Bedi, Andrea Tariang and Piyush Mishra, the movie set in the national capital focusses on crime against women in cities.
Amitabh Bachchan said that the aim behind making this film was to change people's perception about India.
"The aim behind making Pink was to send its message as strongly as possible. I want people outside to recognise what is happening (in India)," he said.
