'Pehredaar Piya Ki' to go off-air, TV viewers revolt against the plot

Sony’s new TV soap ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ is in deep trouble. 50K petition has been signed against the show. The plot has received lots of flak from the TV-goers for its bizarre plot. Viewers are finding difficult to accept the relationship of a 9-year-old boy with a 19-year-old girl. The inclusion of their romance and honeymoon has further intensified the protest.

More than 50,000 people have signed an online petition demanding a ban on the TV show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’. It was also criticized for promoting child marriage.

An angry viewer named Mansi Jain has started the online petition on change.org, she has urged the Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to ban the show.

"Pehredar piya ki. - A 10-year-old impressionable little kid ('piyaa') caressing and stalking a lady who's more than double his age and filling sindoor in her 'maang' is being telecast at prime time -8:30 pm on Sony," Jain writes in the petition.

"(Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire nation.

Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers' mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such TV serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial."

So far Jain's petition has received more than 50,000 signatures and still counting.

‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ features Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar as Diya Ratan Singh and Afaan Khan as her husband Prince Ratan Singh.
