‘Peepli Live’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ actor Sitaram Panchal dies of cancer


Sitaram Panchal, who debuted in Bollywood with 1994 film, ‘Bandit Queen’ passed away on Thursday morning. He was battling lung and kidney cancer. He was 54.

Sharing the news with indianexpress.com, a relative said, “Sitaram Panchal passed away this morning. He had breathing difficulties. He was not keeping well for a long time.”

It was only yesterday that talented actor celebrated his twenty-sixth wedding anniversary. His son Rishabh Panchal and wife Uma Panchal had even shared a picture on Facebook.

The ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ actor was unwell for a long time and he even faced monetary difficulties to meet the high expanses of cancer treatment. Months ago, through his friend, he made a Facebook appeal seeking momentary help from his fans and well wishers.

Sitaram has been fighting cancer for the past three years, and lately his condition deteriorated. 

“Initially, he used to work and we could make ends meet. But now, he does not even have the strength to stand up. He has lost a lot of weight. Ever since the cancer was detected in January 2014, he has taken Ayurvedic treatment. It was only recently that he started a new Homeopathic medicine, following which, his condition worsened and we discontinued the medicines,” his wife earlier said in an interview.

In his Facebook appeal, Sitaram wrote to his fans and well-wishers. “Bhaio meri help karo meri cancer se halat kharab hoti ja rahi hai apka kalakar bhai sitaram panchal,” he wrote on Monday.

Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) also posted about Sitaram Panchal’s critical health. The post read: “It pains us to hear the suffering of our esteemed member Shri Sitaram Panchal. We assure him of all the help we can provide to him in his hour of need and also urge all of you to open your hearts.”

 Sitaram Panchal has also worked in movies like ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Slumdog Millionnaire’, ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’.
