‘Pakeezah’ actress Geeta Kapoor dies in an old age home

Abandoned by her own children, ‘Pakeezah’ actress Geeta Kapoor died in an old-age home in Mumbai today morning. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who went to the veteran actress’s rescue when her son left her in the hospital and never returned informed Geeta Kapoor’s demise. She was 67 and acted in over 100 films.

Pandit, who had paid Geeta Kapoor's hospital bills last year, told Indian Express, "Geeta ji finally passed away, we tried our level best to care for her, but she finally gave up. She kept waiting for her children for last one full year, but no one came to meet her.

"Only last Saturday we had arranged a grand breakfast to cheer her up, she was okay too, but she was not happy from inside, as she wanted to see her children one last time. She had a natural death as she was not keeping well because of her age, she passed away today, around 9.00 AM."

He added, "Her body will be kept at Cooper Hospital Vile Parle for two days hoping her children to come and at least do the last rites. Otherwise, we will do our best to bid her a dignified goodbye."

Geeta Kapoor’s son Raja Kapoor, who is said to be a choreographer admitted his ailing mother last year in May. He got his mother admitted in the hospital and went under the pretext of withdrawing cash from an ATM but never came to check on her. When filmmaker Ashoke Pandit came to know about the pathetic condition of the veteran actress. He not only paid her medical bills but also put up in a good old-age home.

"He used to beat me up as I did not approve of his philandering ways. He would give me food once in four days, and sometimes, even lock me up for several days. I was not ready to go to an old-age home, that's why, he planned all this. He deliberately kept me hungry and I fell ill. Then, he got me admitted and fled," she had said at the time.
