‘Padmaavat’ booms, earns 110 crores in the opening weekend


Despite protests, ‘Padmaavat’ is going great guns at the box-office. In just four days of its release, the magnum opus helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali garnered Rs 110 crore in the opening weekend. It is speculated that the film would have easily cross Rs 145 crore if not get into trouble. ‘Padmaavat’ collection is a big slap to the fringe group who protested against the authenticity of the film.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh earlier tweeted about the film’s figure #Padmaavat continues to SPARKLE... Biz on Sat [after a big holiday on Fri] was EXCEPTIONAL... Despite protests by the Karni Sena, audience showered immense love on ‘Padmaavat’. Summing the Friday and Saturday collection including paid previews, the film has earned Rs 56 crore in just three days. (Thursday, January 25 – 19 Crore and Wednesday, January 24 (Paid Previews) – 5 Crore).

The film took a big jump on Friday (Republic Day) and earned Rs 32 crore on the National holiday.

Made on a whopping budget of Rs 180 crore, ‘Padmaavat’ is going to registered its name in the biggest release of 2017. Despite censor board certification Supreme Court order states like Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh did not screen the film fearing more violent incidents.

‘Padmaavat’, produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions, features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh enacted the role of Allauddin Khilji while Shahid Kapoor stepped into the role of Rawal Ratan Singh.
