Oscar winner AR Rahman turns scriptwriter, producer

Oscar winner and noted music composer AR Rahman ventured into scriptwriting and film production. After composing music for 12 films, including three Hollywood ones in 2014, AR Rahman develops interest for scriptwriting and film production.

“I am scripting a movie which I will co-produce. It is in the process,” Mr. Rahman told reporters at the press conference of Shankar’s upcoming film ‘I’. The 47-year-old, who composed music for ’I’ and ‘Kochadaiiyaan: The Legend’, said he is happy to work with two stalwarts of Indian cinema Rajinikanth and Shankar in the same year.

“2014 has been an eventful year for me. I have done 12 films this year. I did three films in Hollywood and also worked with Rajinikanth and Shankar,” Mr. Rahman said.

‘I’ directed by Shankar features Vikram in the lead role. The film is slated for Jan 9 release and also features Amy Jackson and Upen Patel in pivotal roles.

Talking about the film, Rahman said, "Shankar told me about this story 15 years back and since then he nurtured and worked on this story. I knew about this film so I did this film."

This year also Rahman is once again in the Academy Award race. His work for ‘Million Dollar Arm’, ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ and Indian film ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ are part of the long list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on its website recently.
