Saif Ali Khan to star in spin-off film on Langda Tyagi of ‘Omkara’

Taapsee Pannu-starrer ‘Naam Shabana’ started a spin-off trend in Bollywood, and the next in line is Saif Ali Khan’s character Langda Tyagi from his 2006 film ‘Omkara’.

Saif’s act of a conniving, expletive-blurting anti-hero Langda Tyagi in Vishal Bhardwaj’s multi-starrer crime drama is counted among his best performances till date. He bagged the Filmfare Best Villain Award for the role. Now, his grey-shaded character is set to get a solo outing, narrating how Langda Tyagi became the way he is, according to a report in Mid-day.

"‘Omkara’ surprised critics and viewers alike, with Saif receiving accolades for his performance. No one could have pulled off the character like he did. The script for the spin-off is currently being written. There have been multiple propositions on how to create the narrative. The story will put the spotlight on how this man became the way he is," the report quoted sources close to Bhardwaj's production house as saying.

Writers Abhishek Chaubey and Robin Bhatt, along with Bhardwaj, who wrote the original, will script the new Langda film. Saif has reportedly given his nod for the proposed film, the tabloid stated.

If the film happens, then it will mark Saif’s third collaboration with the National Award Winning filmmaker, after ‘Omkara’ and ‘Rangoon’.

‘Omkara’ was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’ and also starred Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Bipasha Basu and Naseeruddin Shah.
