No make-up for Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Yudh’

Excitement has been building up among the countless fans of Amitabh Bachchan as the megastar is all set to make his fiction series debut on television with the drama series ‘Yudh.’ Anurag Kashyap the creative director of the upcoming TV series has taken the decision that the actors should go for a no-makeup look. The decision is in line with the makers’ claim that ‘Yudh’ will be unlike any typical TV series. The show’s lead star Big B who will be playing a character named Yudhisthir Sikarwar, has confirmed the news in a statement. Bachchan said, “Keeping in mind that it was a directorial decision to make visuals look as real-life as possible, it was essential that the actors looked natural…That helped in the way our scenes were lit up and there were no special efforts to conceal defects, if any, on our faces. These factors work well in the overall look of the product.”

‘Yudh’ is a joint production between Saraswati Productions and Endemol. Apart from Anurag Kashyap, it will also feature Shoojit Sircar in directorial duties. The basic plot of the series revolves around Yudhisthir Skarwar, a real estate baron who is caught in various struggles with declining health, his own mind, his estranged family and his rivals in the business world. In addition to Amitabh Bachchan, the series has a powerful cast consisting of Sarika, Kay Kay Menon and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Bachchan has worked in television before but in non-fiction format. He very successfully hosted the popular game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' for several seasons. His success with the show helped him a great deal as the actor was going through a very bad phase.

While Big B has enough star power to make any show watchable, he is hoping that the  unique story of ‘Yudh’ will help him to connect with the TV audience.  Big B recently said, "The story is the USP of 'Yudh' and not me. I feel the directors, the writers are the main guys involved in this show. If there is no story then I am useless. I am a mere puppet and I did what they asked me to do." On the day of the first look launch of the series, Bachchan had revealed how the series was created. He said, “For quite some time I wanted to get an opportunity on television in which I get to work in a serial. I got in touch with Anurag Kashyap last January. Then we together took this forward. For me it has been an amazing experience. And I am thankful to those people who have worked with me and helped make this series.” The show is expected to air in July on Sony Entertainment Television.
