Nawazuddin Siddiqui earns flak for starring in sexist Pakistani TVC

Acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has stirred a controversy by featuring in a Pakistani commercial that propagates sexism. Social media users haven’t taken it kindly and have slammed the ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ actor.

The advertisement in question is that of a washing machine brand. It shows Nawaz chilling with his friends and bragging about dominating on his wife and bashing her up. He says, “Mujhe gussa aagay, mera haath uth gaya, dhulai ki (I got angry and beat her).”

This created a huge furore in Pakistan as the people on social media called it misogynistic. “Misogynistic culture prevails in society we should discourage this #KenwoodPakistan #BanAd @reportpemra @Baahirezaman @marvisirmed,” tweeted a user.

Another user wrote, “Talking about hitting your wife or hitting anyone is not something that can be regarded as a joke or a frivolity. This is how mindsets harden.”

Earlier, too Nawazuddin has featured in Pakistani TV commercials for the same brand alongside Pak actress Aisha Khan.

A Mid-day report daily quoted a source close to Nawaz saying, "He (Nawaz) shot for the ad a while ago in Dubai. It is just an ad and there is no need to read between the lines. He has nothing to say about it (the controversy).”

On the work front, Nawaz will be next seen in Sridevi starrer thriller ‘Mom’, which also stars Akshayee Khanna, and and Pakistani actors Adnan Siddiqui and Sajal Ali. The movie is scheduled to release on July 7. He will also be seen in Tiger Shroff’s ‘Munna Michael’ and is also a part of Nandita Das’ ‘Manto’.
