‘Mom’ trailer: Sridevi-starrer film is full of suspense

Sridevi, who returned to Bollywood screens with ‘English Vinglish’ after a gap of fifteen years, will be starring in upcoming film ‘Mom’, five years after her big comeback. The makers of the film shared its trailer on Saturday afternoon.

‘Mom’ is a thriller starring the gorgeous actress in the titular role, while Pakistani actress Sajal Ali plays her daughter. Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui plays her husband. The movie also stars Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles.

The opening of the two-minute-long trailer sets the vibe of a thriller. Sridevi as Devika is seen standing against a dark, overcast sky; she is in a dilemma asking what can one choose between bad and worse. Her daughter Arya is a teenager and is going through a crucial period in her life. From the trailer, it can be made out that the mother-daughter duo’s relationship has developed a distance. As the trailer ends, Arya is seen addressing her mother as ‘ma’am’ saying that she is not her real mother.

The trailer has Sridevi’s character looking for her daughter Arya and gets in touch with Nawazuddin who plays the character of Dayashankar Kapoor aka DK. He tells Sridevi’s character to faith in God, and when she says God may not be everywhere, he says ‘that’s why God made mothers’. Nawaz makes a great impression with his drastic transformation and notable accent. Akshaye’s character also makes a menacing presence in the trailer.

Written and directed by Ravi Udyawar and produced by Boney Kapoor, 'Mom' is all set to release on July 7.
