Model Preeti Jain gets 3-yr jail for plotting to kill Madhur Bhandarkar

Mumbai-based model Preeti Jain, who had once accused Madhur Bhandarkar of raping her, has been sentenced to three years of imprisonment for plotting to kill the National Award-winning filmmaker.

The city civil and sessions court convicted model Preeti Jain and announced the sentence after finding her guilty of hiring contract killers to murder Bhandarkar. Two of her aides, Naresh Pardeshi and Shivram Das, have also been sentenced to three years’ term on charges of conspiracy and aiding her for the crime. Two other associates from Uttar Pradesh were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The ‘Fashion’ director took to Twitter to react on the court’s verdict, and wrote, “Somethings are better left unsaid! Somethings are better left as they are. Life moves on, so have I.”

Preeti Jain was arrested in September 2005 for giving ‘supari’ to an aide of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli for eliminating Bhandarkar, almost a year after filing a rape case against the filmmaker. She allegedly paid Rs. 75,000 to the gangster aide Naresh Pardeshi, but when he didn't do the job, she asked for her money back. When Arun Gawli found out, he alerted the police, who registered a case in this regard.

The trial first began in the fast-track court in Sewree, but was later transferred to the sessions court. Reportedly, Preeti Jain sought suspension of sentence following the court’s decision.

Meanwhile, Bhandarkar, known for his realistic films like ‘Page 3’, ‘Traffic Signal’, ‘Fashion’ and ‘Chandni Bar’, is preparing for the release of his next film ‘Indu Sarkar’ which will hit screens on July 21.
