Meenakshi Dixit makes Bollywood debut in Kundan Shah’s ‘P Se PM Tak’

Southern actress and dancer Meenakshi Dixit is set to make her Bollywood debut with director Kundan Shah’s upcoming film ‘P Se PM Tak’. The actress will play the lead in the political satire which is about a sex-worker who ends up being the chief minister of a state in an interesting turn of events.

The film originally titled ‘Masquerade’ was later changed to ‘P Se PM Tak’ and will hit theatres on May 29. The letter ‘P’ in the title means ‘prostitute’ and PM is prime minister.  

Reportedly, Kundan Shah wanted to cast Madhuri Dixit for the role and waited for almost two decades for her approval. He thereafter, moved on to a new face and cast Meenakshi for the role. The film also features actors Akhilendra Mishra and Upasana Singh.

The 26-year-old Meenakshi found her way to the film industry after she appeared for a dance reality show ‘Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan’. She made her acting debut with the Telugu film ‘Lifestyle’ and appeared in various other films, including Tamil, Malyalam and Kannada. She also did item dance in Tollywood films ‘Dookudu’ and ‘Baadshah’ and also appeared in a dance number in Tamil film ‘Billa II’. In 2014, she played the lead role for two films. She played a princess in the Tamil period-comedy ‘Tenaliraman’, while the Telugu thriller-drama ‘Adavi Kachina Vennela’ saw her playing an aspiring sharp shooter, with the actress also performing stunts in the film.

Kundan Shah specialies in comedy genre and is known for his classic comedy film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (1983) which introduced Indian cinema to satire films for the first time. He also directed many comedy series for national television which went on to be very popular. Actress Preity Zinta made her Bollywood debut in his film ‘Kya Kehna’.
